Counselor in Training

The selective C.I.T. program helps Adventurer Campers ages 15 to 17 become capable, caring leaders while remaining fully part of Camp life.

Limited enrollment

Three levels of growing leadership.

Camp Frontier’s C.I.T. Leadership Program is an optional Camper program—not paid employment—for Adventurers ages 15–17 who have been approved for the program by the Camp Director. C.I.T.’s are fully Campers and participate in regular Camp activities, with one or two periods each day devoted to training. They receive hands-on training in caring for Campers, water safety, first aid awareness, communication, leadership and activity instruction.

Level 1

Sophomore C.I.T.

First-year C.I.T.’s reside with their fellow Adventurers while learning the foundations of responsibility, service, maturity, confidence and positive role-modeling.

Level 2

Junior C.I.T.

Junior C.I.T.’s move closer to an assigned cabin group and begin putting their training into practice with greater hands-on responsibility and staff guidance.

Level 3

Senior C.I.T.

Senior C.I.T.’s continue working near assigned cabin groups, strengthen their leadership and activity-instruction skills, and prepare for the possible Counselor’s Apprentice pathway.

Training and service

C.I.T.’s help care for younger Campers, learn water-safety and first-aid awareness, assist with activity instruction, and help plan and lead ColorWarz. Community-service hours are available.

Progression through Camp

A Camper may participate in up to two C.I.T. sessions in one summer. After completing all three levels over multiple summers, an eligible participant may return as a Counselor’s Apprentice.

Eligibility and cost

The program is limited to approved Adventurer Campers ages 15–17. Camp Director approval is required, enrollment is limited to six boys and six girls per session, and the additional cost is $50 per week.

Learn to lead people well

Training covers caring for Campers, water safety, communication, leadership skills, and activity instruction. C.I.T.’s practice responsibility with guidance from experienced staff.

Still a Camper, becoming a role model

C.I.T.’s continue choosing activities and living in the Camp community while helping Counselors and modeling Camp Frontier values for younger Campers.
